It's the Civilized Foreigner Come To Help The Benighted Natives who can find the Temple! The Other Civilized Foreigner checking the historical databases for things the Benighted Natives have known for years is the one who notices the blatantly obvious pattern the Benighted Natives have never figured out and Solves The Mystery! The Civilized Foreigners go off (with no native people!) to find The Mystic Treasure! I haven't waxed poetic about Supergirl here before - but the show should be right up this comm's alley: loads and loads of awesome female characters: heroes, villains, best friends, sisters, daughters, yes and a lovely lesbian couple: Alex & Maggie. <br /><br />Title: Alex&Maggie<br />Rating: G<br />Medium: pencil<br />Note: drawn from a screenshot from the series 2 finale (no spoilers though)<br /><br />I really love especially how Alex is handled in the show - she's the title heroine's sister and their relationship always is the most important for Supergirl - even when love interests (later on) turn up. <span class="cut-wrapper"><span style="display: none;" id="span-cuttag___1" class="cuttag"></span><b class="cut-open">( </b><b class="cut-text"><a href="https://shes-awesome.dreamwidth.org/81634.html#cutid1">spoilers for Supergirl season 2</a></b><b class="cut-close"> )</b></span><div style="display: none;" id="div-cuttag___1" aria-live="assertive"></div><br /><br />Preview: <a href="https://mekare.dreamwidth.org/file/88339.jpg"><img src="https://mekare.dreamwidth.org/file/200x200/88339.jpg" alt="Maggie cuddling Alex" title="Maggie&Alex" /></a><br /><br />Full image <a href="https://mekare.dreamwidth.org/62800.html">in my journal</a>.<br /><br /><img src="https://www.dreamwidth.org/tools/commentcount?user=shes_awesome&ditemid=81634" width="30" height="12" alt="comment count unavailable" style="vertical-align: middle;"/> commentstag:dreamwidth.org,2009-09-23:448043:81228mekareDiscussion: Wonder Woman movie2017-07-10T21:36:42Z2017-07-10T21:36:42Zpublic13Posted by: <span lj:user='mekare' style='white-space: nowrap;' class='ljuser'><a href='https://mekare.dreamwidth.org/profile'><img src='https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png' alt='[personal profile] ' width='17' height='17' style='vertical-align: text-bottom; border: 0; padding-right: 1px;' /></a><a href='https://mekare.dreamwidth.org/'><b>mekare</b></a></span><br /><br />Is anyone interested in a discussion of this film? I'm guessing by now a lot of people have seen it and so far I get the impression the general reviews have been positive. What do you think? I believe she definitely qualifies as an awesome woman. :-)<br /><br /><b>Disclaimer:</b> My only knowlegde of the character stems from DC's animated series, I haven't ever read a WW comic but I'm told by more knowledgeable fans the animated series got her essence right.<br /><br />Some points to talk about:<br /><br />- portrayal of Amazons<br />- representation of different kinds of women in general<br />- Diana as a role model<br />- fun factor :-)<br />- portrayal of Steve Trevor and his interactions with Diana<br />...<br /><br /><img src="https://www.dreamwidth.org/tools/commentcount?user=shes_awesome&ditemid=81228" width="30" height="12" alt="comment count unavailable" style="vertical-align: middle;"/> commentstag:dreamwidth.org,2009-09-23:448043:81064mekareArt: Rey from Star Wars2017-07-10T21:30:08Z2017-07-10T21:30:08Zpublic6Posted by: <span lj:user='mekare' style='white-space: nowrap;' class='ljuser'><a href='https://mekare.dreamwidth.org/profile'><img src='https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png' alt='[personal profile] ' width='17' height='17' style='vertical-align: text-bottom; border: 0; padding-right: 1px;' /></a><a href='https://mekare.dreamwidth.org/'><b>mekare</b></a></span><br /><br />This is actually inspired by a fic, but it works on its own as well.<br /><br /><b>Title</b> Rey meditating<br /><b>Artist</b>: <span style='white-space: nowrap;'><a href='https://mekare.dreamwidth.org/profile'><img src='https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png' alt='[personal profile] ' width='17' height='17' style='vertical-align: text-bottom; border: 0; padding-right: 1px;' /></a><a href='https://mekare.dreamwidth.org/'><b>mekare</b></a></span><br /><b>Rating</b>: G<br /><b>Character</b>: Rey<br /><b>Inspired by</b>: <a href="https://archiveofourown.org/works/5703442">Jacket, Droid, Lightsaber</a> by <span style='white-space: nowrap;'><a href='https://imaginary-golux.dreamwidth.org/profile'><img src='https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png' alt='[personal profile] ' width='17' height='17' style='vertical-align: text-bottom; border: 0; padding-right: 1px;' /></a><a href='https://imaginary-golux.dreamwidth.org/'><b>imaginary_golux</b></a></span><br /><b>Summary</b>: The fic that inspired this points out that abundant water is a new thing for Rey once she's with the rebels.
